The kingdom of Hyrule was a land that was known for many different things. One of these was its vast and diverse landscapes. From grassy plains stretching out as far as the eye could see, from dense forest full of mystery and magic, to the searing heat of the volcano known as Death Mountain, to the various snowy peaks, and all the way to the sheer endless Gerudo desert, the kingdom offered many sights to see and places to explore to any traveller.
At the same time, another thing that the kingdom was known for made the prospect of actually travelling it a rather more daunting task. Hyrule always had a long history full of wars and attackers, a history so long that historians had an incredibly tough time discerning what was history, and what was legend, or what order these stories even took place in. What was certain was that the various monsters that were seemingly always all too eager to pledge their allegiance to whatever Dark Lord came along were a constant that needed to be kept in mind for any that travelled the land.
Luckily enough, these monsters were rarely more than a nuisance to the various peoples of Hyrule. A dangerous nuisance, and one that quickly got violent, but a nuisance nonetheless. As such travelling adventurers that explored the lands with weapon and shield at the ready were an all too common sight. There were however greater dangers in Hyrule than just monsters, as there was always some ancient evil or another to be found in old dungeons, temples or shrines, of which the kingdom had so many that no one could ever hope to know of them all.
But in these days, there were two adventurers that dared brave even these places of evil and bested their dangers, a duo that kept even the most daunting forces of darkness at bay. These two were known as Link and Linkle, the hero and heroine of Hyrule. About them and their origin, almost no one knew anything. It was widely known that they both hailed from a small town somewhere in the kingdom, but beyond that, everything ventured into the realm of rumours.
And more than anything, these rumours concerned themselves with the exact relationship between the two. Some said they were siblings. Others said they were cousins. Others still said that they were relatives of some sort, but didn’t want to commit to settling on one particular kind of relative. For those that did not believe the two to be related, the most common thought was that they were romantic partners, while by far the least popular explanation was that the two were simply platonic partners. At any rate, actually asking them about it didn’t do much to clear things up either, as Link tended to be too taciturn to give much of any answer. Linkle on the other hand did usually give answers… which however were a simple “We’re partners!”, which she refused to elaborate upon.
For some reason, the relationship between the two got a lot more attention in comparison to their heroic exploits than one would think. And there were plenty of heroic exploits between the two: both of them had defeated many an evil that had reared its head in Hyrule, and helped out a lot of people. Despite this, their ways had never actually lead the duo to the heart of the kingdom, Hyrule Castle Town.
That was, until today.
Though by and large, their exploits had always been on a smaller scale, all these things added up. After a while, they were recognized as heroes all across the kingdom. And before long, one of their greater accomplishments over a particularly noteworthy evil was enough to be cause for celebration. So it happened that one day, celebrations were held in Hyrule Castle Town, akin to a festival.
And Link and Linkle were invited as the guests of honour. Not officially, since the royal family didn’t actually really have a hand in the festivities being organized. But nonetheless, everyone knew that the two were the reason why everyone was celebrating, from which it followed that they were to be guests of honour.
Only problem was, that no one bothered to tell them. They did eventually find out anyway, but by that time, it was already late noon. However, with what the rest of the day had in store for them, neither ended up having any reason to complain.
“Oh my goddess… there are so many people…!” Linkle said, looking around frantically. It was no understatement, either: though the two of them had yet to enter the actually town, they were just two individuals in an outright crowd, one which by and large didn’t even seem to recognize for who they were. Oh, here and there some people turned to look at them, but those were the exception rather than the rule. Both of them were rather used to it, though: for whatever reason, people all across Hyrule tended to expect heroes to be awe-inspiring, tall figures. A pair of young adults that both were only around 160 centimetres tall at best didn’t exactly fit in with that image.
Like his fellow hero, Link let his gaze wander across the crowd. Or rather, he did it as best he could, as, again, being around 160 centimetres tall did not really offer the best vantage point. After a moment, he offered his own perspective: “Sure is.”
“Do you… think we should maybe look for some sorta official person? To let them know we’re here, or something like that?” Linkle wondered.
Link gave her a look. “You want to be in the centre of attention?”
Linkle considered this. “No… not really. At least not now. Maybe later? ...Yeah, maybe this evening, we can do that, and get surrounded by beauties–“
“Focus!” Link said with a hint of harshness in his tone. “We are here to have fun. But that kind of fun can wait. We are new to the city. Let’s get a feel for it first.”
“Yeah, yeah, you’re right,” Linkle sighed. “Should be plenty to explore there first. And buy! Thank the goddess I thought to fill my wallet before we set out earlier…!”
“But let us not waste money. We might stay here for a few days.”
“Let’s decide that once we’ve actually seen some sights around here. Like restaurants, for starters! I’m starving…”
Just as the duo of heroes had expected the town turned out to be full of sights to see… and things to buy. There were food stalls and restaurants all over the place, as well as all sorts of shops that offered both useful and (seemingly) useless items and trinkets. Upon Linkle’s insistence however, their first stop was getting something to eat. But unfortunately, actually settling on where to eat was another matter entirely, as the two of them ended up finally getting recognized, which led to people in general getting a lot more pushy. Just about everyone wanted to accommodate the heroes, but at the same time, no one wanted to give discounts. And with Link insisting that they best be cautious with how much they spend, that already ruled out a lot of establishments.
In the end, the two of them managed to settle on a smaller food stand by the side of the street. It was not a terribly trustworthy-looking place, with the most outstanding feature about it being the big sign that said “Beedle’s Best Bsausages”. But it had reasonable prices, and when your income is anything but regular and guaranteed, that could go a long way.
Eventually, the duo were munching away on their “bsausages” in a bun, which tasted well enough… thought that probably meant that they had about the nutritional value of gloom or malice-infested Bokblin meat.
“So, the two of you are the heroes that are the talk of the kingdom recently, huh?” the shopkeeper asked as they ate.
“Figured that out yourself?” Link asked dryly. Linkle meanwhile, glad to finally get something in her stomach, answered, “Sure are!”
“Wow… such an honour to have the heroes eat here!” Beedle said, beady-eyed. “Do you mind if I ask you something?”
“You just did,” Link said.
“Oh, yes, yes. But I want to know something about you!”
Link’s face remained expressionless. “Will that get us a discount?”
Beedle considered this. “Maybe?”
“Ask away, then!” Linkle said, as she happily took another bite.
“What are you two to each other? Are you, like, siblings or something?” Beedle asked flatly. There was a pause, in which both Link and Linkle stopped mid-bite. The two of them exchanged a brief glance, before turning back to Beedle with a difficult to read expression.
“We’re partners,” Linkle stated plainly, and resumed eating. Link nodded, but just kept looking at the merchant.
Beedle waved his hand dismissively. “Well, yeah, I know that. Everyone knows that! But what does it mean? What kind of partners?”
Link leaned in closer, in a distinctly conspiratorial manner. Eager-eyed, Beedle followed suit.
“You really wanna know?”
“Yes!”
“Weeeeell…” Link said slowly, “So do a lot of people. But it’s a secret to everyone.”
With an offended gasp, Beedle leaned back, and looked back and forth between the hero and heroine. “You realize that this means no discount, yeah?”
Link shrugged. “Fair enough.”
And with that, he held up the bun to take another bite. Linkle, in the meantime, had already eaten hers, and ordered another. But before he could take his bite, or she could actually take the next bsausage in a bun, a tremor suddenly shook the ground.
Luckily for both of them, neither dropped their food. Unluckily for them, the tremor wasn’t an isolated incident, as more kept coming, getting them seriously off-balance. Oddly enough however, neither Beedle nor any of the cityfolk around them seemed to be all too disturbed by it.
Wh- what is this?!” Linkle shouted, holding on tightly to her bsausage in a bun.
“You really wanna know?” Beedle asked, unperturbed. “I would tell you. But, you see, it’s a secret to everyone.”
Link glared at the merchant, and threw a bunch of rupees down on the stand. “We’ll find out ourselves.” Then he grabbed Linkle by the her hood and dragged her off.
Meanwhile, the tremors continued, but their epicentre seemed to be shifting. By now, the two of them had gotten used enough to them so that they could maintain their balance. As they walked through the crowds and streets, Linkle continued eating, while Link finished his meal.
“Seems like everyone here’s used to… whatever this is. I wonder what’s going on?” she asked between bites.
“Guess we’ll find out in a moment,” Link said.
Then the two of them turned a corner, got onto one of the main streets – and were speechless. In their adventures they had come across all manners of big creatures. From Boss Bokoblins, to Talusses, to Hinoxes, and even the gentle giant Biggoron. But never had they seen something like this.
They had never seen something like her.
While there were many things that Hyrule was known for, there were some things about it that, while somewhat common knowledge, were not exactly something that most people living in it were really aware of. One such thing pertained the stature of people in leadership positions. Whether it was by mere coincidence, or some grand plan of the gods that mere mortals could not understand, there was nonetheless the undeniable trend that leaders of any race just somehow tended to be on the bigger side compared to their subjects.
Easy examples of this could be found with monsters. While Bokoblins were common enough, they all were subordinates to the larger Boss Bokoblins, as well as Moblins and Hinoxes. Though of course, monsters were not the only example of this. Within the aquatic Zora, members of the royal family invariably towered over the more common members of their species, who usually were around the same height as Hylians. With the already tall Gerudo (themselves so closely related to the Hylians that most believed there was no actual distinction), their queen was also often the tallest – not always, but still very frequently. And while the enormous Biggoron wasn’t ruler of the Gorons, their actual chief was usually still far larger than the other members of his kind, though not to such drastic extremes.
To all this, the Hylians were also no real exception. The king of Hyrule often tended to be a rather large man, though still within the realm of what is normally considered humanly possible. So, tall members of the royal family were not unheard of.
And yet, even when considering all this, the Princess Zelda that lived during these times still managed to be rather outstanding. Outstanding to such an extent that over the years, several rumours popped up around her.
Some said that true to her family, and the general tendencies for authority figures, she had simply grown naturally over the years, albeit to an extent that was truly astounding. Others surmised that magic had been at play, that Zelda had fallen victim to an enchanted mask from a faraway land. Others still claimed that she had eaten mushrooms from an even further away land that had the most bizarre effects on her. And then there were those that suggested that years ago, Zelda had gotten her hands on the sacred golden relic of the gods, which could grant the wishes of those that laid there hands on it – and that she had used it to shape her body in a way that she desired, yes, that she had even been born a boy and had only become Zelda upon being granted her desire.
Whatever it was, nobody knew for certain. Though many claimed to have had a hand in her upbringing, however minor, there were simply no reliable accounts of any kind to be found. The reason for the Princess Zelda’s height was truly a secret to everybody.
And so, the fact of the matter simply was that she was over 17 meters tall. Somehow, people had just gotten used to it. Or those that frequented Castle Town did, at any rate.
Even squatting as she was, she still towered over all the buildings surrounding here. All the people in the street, no matter how tall they were, didn’t surpass her footwear in height, an odd mixture between sandal and boot. And on top of that, they had heels on them, too, adding around another meter in height.
In general, her outfit was rather eye-catching, even if the height of the woman wearing it were to be disregarded. It was a regal-looking dress, one that you would expect a member of the royal family to wear. But at the same time, it was uncharacteristically… revealing for such a dress. It covered the front and back of her body alright, but the sides left a bit to be desired when it came to that aspect. The overall impression was that the tailors had done the very best they could, which had however only been so much considering the sheer size of the garments that they had to create. More than anything, it was kept in place by a belt of sorts.
And the end result seemed to have seen better days already, too: while overall still clean and clearly well-maintained, there were some tears around the lower chest area, which, coupled with the generously deep cleavage of the top left very little to the imagination with regards to just how much it was concealing… and it was concealing a lot, even when keeping in mind the size of the woman in question. Each breast alone was larger than her head, and both together could easily hide adults between them.
Further down on her body, the open-sided nature of her dress allowed a glance at panties matching the dress in colour… and luckily, more intact than it. Beneath, there were legs that even further down were as thick and wide as young trees. The crown adorning her forehead meanwhile also did its part leaving little to the imagination – this time however with regards to the identity of the giantess.
This was Princess Zelda of Hyrule. And at present, she was seemingly occupied in a conversation with a retainer.
“...get you’re concerned, Impa, but what’s really supposed to be happen? It is not like anything could really happen to me!” the giant princess said, her voice effortlessly carrying itself across the crowd, despite her trying to speak in a more hushed tone.
However, since the person she was speaking with was not a giantess, the answer went unheard by anyone but her.
“How reckless do you think I am?! I always watch where I’m going, even if I had some drinks!”
Occupied as she was with her conversation, Princess Zelda did not take note of what was going on down by her feet, on the street. Nor did she realize who was staring at her.
“Buh. Buh buh,” Linkle stuttered. “Buh… big…!”
Link, standing next to her, merely raised his eyebrows – though he, too, could not take his eyes of the giant princess. “She IS quite tall.”
Link, standing next to her, merely raised his eyebrows – though he, too, could not take his eyes of the giant princess. “She IS quite tall.”
Linkle turned to her fellow hero, and gave him a wide-eyed stare. “Tall? She’s big! Huge! Enormous! Massive! And she’s– she’s–“
“Your type?” Link asked bemusedly.
Instead of responding right away, Linkle sagged a little. “…Yeah. What, is she not yours as well?”
The other hero shrugged. “Hm, I guess. Seemingly not as much as she is yours, though.”
“I mean– I mean, look at her! Her… everything!” Linkle said, while making vague gestures with her hands, which indicated that while she did not dare speak it out loud, she was in fact very much referring to the giantess’ curves. “And she’s gorgeous!”
“Mh. Go talk to her, then.”
Linkle’s face froze in expression that was reminiscent of a person being told that after a gruelling day of hard work, they had to put in another shift right away. “Are you out of your mind?! There’s no way that I can do that! She’s the princess! I’m sure she has more than enough suitors already!” She paused, thought for a moment, and then added, “…Well either that, or none at all. I think her being huge could also deter a lot of people.”
Once again, Link raised his eyebrows.
“I’m still not going to talk to her! Not going to happen!” Linkle said decisively. Meanwhile, further down the street, the giantess princess had seemingly finished her conversation, as she rose to her full, towering height, and walked down a nearby street. Every step she took caused light tremors: she would be easy enough to find if anyone were to search for her. As eager as ever, Linkle watched after her.
“Keeping things to yourself is often good,” Link said, watching his fellow hero instead, “But some things should be said. C’mon, we’re going after her.”
Linkle pouted. “What makes you think that I’d agree to that?”
“Because it means that you get to ogle her some more.”
Linkle raised her hand and index finger as if to raise another objection, but when she opened her mouth, she ended up saying nothing. After an awkward of moment of this, she lowered her finger, and let her head sag. “…You win.”
“Thought so.”
While it was easy enough to follow Zelda on account of her giant size, actually finding a way through the streets turned out to be just a bit more difficult than it might have initially seemed. Whereas the people were all to eager to step out of the way for their princess, Link and Linkle were in the end just two faces in the crowd on a busy day. And while they were widely known heroes, they were not widely recognized, even if some people had already caught on to their presence in town. This meant that they had their share of troubles just getting through the crowd.
